A convertible earns its keep on the slow, hotel-lined stretch of A-7 between Puerto Banús and the Golden Mile, where the point is to be seen moving at walking pace. The same car is the wrong tool for Ronda: the A-369 climbs through the Serranía de Ronda with real elevation and blind bends, and a GT or SUV with weight and grip handles that road better than an open-top cruiser. For flat, fast coastal driving toward Sotogrande or Estepona, an executive sedan or SUV keeps pace with business schedules without the theatre.

Delivery is arranged around where you actually are, not a rental desk. Guests arriving by yacht tender at Puerto Banús can have a car waiting at the marina gate or on Avenida Julio Iglesias; Golden Mile hotel guests get a valet-style handover at the entrance of Marbella Club or Puente Romano. La Zagaleta and El Madroñal are different again — both are gated estates, and a car heading there needs advance registration at the gate before it can reach the villa itself, so this is worth confirming a few days ahead rather than on the morning of arrival.

A trip to Gibraltar is a full excursion, not a quick loop: it's roughly 80 km and about an hour via the AP-7, and it involves an actual border crossing, so European insurance needs confirming before you leave rather than at the barrier. Closer to home, Málaga Airport sits 60 km east, around 45 minutes up the AP-7 toll road, which is the route most arriving clients will take regardless of which car they've chosen. In July and August, the A-7 through Marbella itself slows with holiday traffic; the older N-340 through Puerto Banús adds about 10 minutes but skips the toll and the worst of the congestion.

Booking timing depends on season as much as model. Through June to September, premium cars here are typically reserved two to four weeks out, particularly around polo season at Sotogrande from May to August when executive transfers are in steady demand. April, May and October bring quieter roads and are widely considered the better window for the Ronda drive specifically.
